Francisco Javier Castander

ICE

Research Interests

Francisco centers his studies on the structure and evolution of galaxy clusters, galaxies, gravitational lensing as well as the Large Scale Structure of the Universe. He has participated in worldwide surveys such as SDSS, MUSYC, CYDER, GOYA, VHS, PAU and recently, DES. He also complements his observational side of his research participating in numerical simulations projects such as MICE. Francisco has also been designated PI of the Spanish Consortium for Euclid, an ESA mission designed to understand the origin of the accelerated expansion of the Universe, better known by physicists and astronomers as “dark energy”, which constitutes over 70% of the matter-energy in our universe today.
