Research Interests
Ignasi Ribas is the Director of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and Professor at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE) that belongs to the Spanish Higher Research Council (CSIC). His main research activity focuses on four main topics: 1) Characterisation of stellar properties and impact on exoplanet atmospheres and habitability; 2) Planet searches around low-mass stars though precise Doppler spectrometry; 3) Follow-up of transiting planet candidates from Kepler and TESS; and 4) Atmospheric characterisation of exoplanets from transit spectrophotometry. He also actively participates on ground- and space-based instrumentation projects to discover new planets similar to our Earth, for the eventual search for life. He holds high-level responsibilities in several space missions and astronomical instruments, and is also deeply involved in the development of nanosatellite projects as part of his role as Director of IEEC. Prof. Ribas has published over 250 research papers in international journals, including Nature and Science. He has been a member of ESA’s Astronomy Working Group, President of IAU Division G on Stars and Stellar Physics, and advisor of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. He is strongly committed to outreach activities and dissemination of scientific results.
